Webinar: Health Emergency Management BC: Season Readiness for Wildfire Smoke
May 29, 2019 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. (Pacific Time)
JIBC's Emergency Management Division, in partnership with Emergency Management BC, is hosting its next Emergency Management Webinar on the air quality impacts of wildfire smoke in BC, its health effects, and will provide information on effective personal and public health protection.
Wildfire smoke causes episodes of the worst air quality that most people in British Columbia (BC) will ever experience. Research from BC and around the world has shown that wildfire smoke exposure is associated with large increases in respiratory health risk, and somewhat smaller increases in cardiovascular and mortality risk. With the record-breaking seasons of 2017 and 2018 behind us, we are heading into 2019 preparing for the worst.
Presenter: Sarah Henderson, Senior Scientist, Environmental Health, British Columbia Centre for Disease Control
