It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Rivett, a firefighter and longtime faculty member in the Justice Institute of British Columbia’s (JIBC) Fire & Safety Division (FSD). Rivett, who had been battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma for the past year, died on July 16 following a cardiac arrest at his home. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is one of the presumptive occupational diseases recognized by WorkSafeBC for firefighters.

It is with great sadness that we announce the flags at all JIBC campuses will be lowered to half-mast to honour the life and service of Doug Armour, Assistant Fire Chief with Maple Ridge Fire Department, who passed away unexpectedly on Sunday due to cancer-related complications.

Assistant Chief Armour worked at JIBC as a fire technician for several years, spending countless hours at the Maple Ridge campus, while Maple Ridge Fire Department is also a stakeholder and supporter of the Institute.
